Require Medical Attention At Home?

As parents ourselves, we understand the challenges of visiting a doctor with a young child, which is why we have made house calls an option to consider. To schedule a house visit, our specialist doctor or nurse will do an initial assessment over the phone to determine what the condition might be, what treatment may be needed, or if it is more appropriate for the patient to go to a hospital.

An example would be a young child who has fallen and sustained a head wound. A tele-triage would determine if a house visit would be appropriate for an assessment of the child, as well as management of the head wound.

WHAT DOES PAEDIATRIC CARE AT UCC COVER?

Paediatric care at Urgent Care Clinic International (UCCI) manages the care of children from birth up to 18 years of age. This includes well baby visits, vaccinations, as well as growth and developmental assessments. We also treat non-life-threatening minor illnesses such as allergies, asthma attacks, ear infections, gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, or urinary tract infections. We are also equipped to manage minor injuries involving cuts, sprains, and broken bones.

Please refer to our list of the various conditions that you may seek paediatric treatment for at UCCI. Should you find that we have not listed your child’s specific condition, feel free to call us for a teletriage and clarify the best course of action for you and your child.

DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENTS

Many parents may be concerned about their child’s developmental milestones and whether their child is developing normally. At UCCI, our paediatrician can assess your child and confirm whether they are on track developmentally. Missed milestones may also indicate other conditions. Therefore it is essential to have your child checked by a paediatrician as they grow.

COMMON CHILDHOOD VACCINATIONS

Ensure that your child has the protection that they need to get through life

Vaccinations for children to protect against diseases such as Diphtheria and Measles are compulsory in Singapore. Additionally, vaccinations for Hepatitis B, Rubella, and Varicella are all recommended for children at various stages of their lives. At UCCI, we are equipped to administer the necessary vaccinations for your child. For children from other countries, we can check your home country schedule prior to updating your child’s vaccination.

COMMON CHILDHOOD INJURIES

Get treatment for your child without lengthy waiting times

Wounds and injuries in children are not uncommon. However, parents and caregivers should observe their child closely if they have had a fall. If you suspect your child has a significant abrasion, fracture or dislocation, sprain, or a head injury, call or visit us if you need further information.

When Should I Bring My Child to a Paediatrician at UCCI?

Cuts & Lacerations

At UCCI, we can clean and assess wounds in children. Cuts and lacerations can be closed using a variety of methods depending on the depth and severity. Methods include steri-strips(medical tape), tissue glue, zip-stitch or stitching.

Stitching can be done with local anaesthesia (gel or injection) or under sedation. Arrangements can be made for sedation in our partner hospitals or referrals to other Specialists such as Plastic Surgeons, as required.

Dislocation, Fractures, and Sprains

Should you worry about fractures or joint dislocations after an injury, UCCI is a good alternative to the A&E as our Paediatrician can evaluate your child with the help of in-house X-ray, ultrasound or MRI scans on the spot. Our specialists can also reduce the dislocated joint or splint a fracture at UCCI or manage more serious injuries at our partner hospitals if needed.

Head Injury

Children may fall and hit their heads. While most head injuries are minor and can be monitored at home, falls with a head injury in children younger than six months of age; from a significant height and speed; accompanied by a change in behaviour like confusion and irritability, may warrant further assessment. Call or visit us if you are unsure.

Burns

More superficial burns in children can be treated on-site at UCCI. However, for more sensitive areas, we may refer you for treatment at a partner hospital. To determine the severity of the burns, you may call us and have our paediatrician tele-triage your child.

Stuck Foreign Objects or Jewellery

Curious young children might sometimes insert small objects or toys into their nose or ears. Occasionally, older children might have rings or earrings which get stuck. Call us for further advice.

Urgent Care Clinic can be a good and quick alternative for busy parents with young children, who can sometimes fall sick with unpredictable illness such as fever, ear pain, stomach pain or asthma attacks.

Fever

Since a fever in children may indicate a variety of conditions, it is best that you make an appointment with our paediatrician. At UCCI, we are equipped to perform various tests such as blood and urine tests, respiratory virus nasal swabs (Influenza A, B, Respiratory syncytial virus and Covid-19), streptococcal throat tests, and dengue rapid screening tests. Each of these will allow us to better understand the cause of your child’s fever.

Abdominal Pain / Vomiting / Diarrhoea

If your child is complaining of abdominal pain, and you are unsure as to whether the pain is a simple stomach upset or something more, take note of any other symptoms that may be present. Several conditions, such as gastroenteritis, constipation, or even appendicitis, could be causing this discomfort. Other possibilities include genitourinary cases like urinary tract infections. At UCCI, our paediatrician will determine what is causing the pain and establish the most suitable treatment. Investigations like blood and urine tests or even imaging scans may be carried out.

Asthma / Chest Infection

Children who complain of breathlessness could be suffering from a respiratory tract infection such as pneumonia or bronchitis. Alternatively, breathlessness in children may be caused by asthma. We can manage the acutely unwell child with nebulisation or inhaler treatment. We can also provide long term follow-up and management of asthma.

Our paediatrician at UCCI will be able to diagnose the condition that your child is suffering from after assessment and refer them to a partner hospital if needed.

Quick nasal swab tests, streptococcal throat tests, and dengue rapid screening tests can also be done in the clinic.

Imaging investigations like on-the-spot X-rays, ultrasound and MRI scans (usually same day) are services we offer.
